Brodies Steel Staircase — Edinburgh
Building the future
Brodies Steel Staircase
We were contracted to design, supply, and install a bespoke structural steel staircase for a new office building in the heart of Edinburgh. The project also included a mild steel fin wall, structural glass balustrade with steel supports, and aluminium flashings to finish the stair opening.
To ensure accuracy and precision, our in-house draughting team produced a detailed 3D model of the design. This allowed us to generate fabrication drawings for client approval, ensuring that the design met all specifications before work began. Once the drawings were approved, we moved forward with fabrication.
The steel staircase was manufactured in our facility using advanced equipment, including a CNC plate cutting machine, break press, band saw, drills, and welding equipment. After fabrication, the steel was painted to specification to meet the project’s aesthetic and durability requirements, before being delivered to site.
The installation presented a unique challenge due to the project’s location on the 5th and 6th floors of a newly constructed office building. Transporting the large components to the work area was no small feat, but our skilled installation team navigated the challenges with precision and care.

The Result
Once on-site, our team expertly installed the steel stair structure, the structural glass balustrade, and the metal fin wall. After completing the steel and glass work, we installed the aluminium powder-coated flashings around the stair opening. Finally, the project was completed with bespoke timber treads installed by a specialist timber contractor.
This was a challenging project that required a high level of technical expertise, but the finished result speaks for itself. The combination of steel, glass, and timber creates a striking feature that enhances the space — another successful project that we are extremely proud of.
